On October 24-27, 2019, 180 women gathered at the RIU Montego Bay Hotel for the annual Women’s Retreat. The program was hosted by the Women’s Ministries Department of the West, North and North-East Conferences under the theme “Transformed Women: Going Beyond the Ordinary”. The event had a healthy balance of recreation, rejuvenation and motivational presentations, which were done by guest speaker Mrs. Patrice Williams-Gordon, secretary for The Bahamas Academy in the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The Women’s Retreat offered the attendees two-days dedicated to praise and spiritual renewal with the main presenters: Mrs. Patrice Williams-Gordon, guest speaker and Dr. Lorraine Vernal, Director of Women’s Ministries at Jamaica Union Conference.

The Women’s Ministries Directors of the three conferences (Mrs. Carol Smythe-James, Mrs. Christine Smith Shand, Dr. Doreen Morrison) welcomed their Sisters in Christ and expressed their gratitude to the attendees. “We are elated that you have chosen to spend this weekend to be spiritually renewed, energized and motivated as we fellowship with each other” they said in a joint statement.

The motivational speaker took the stand on October 25, to charge the ladies to overcome amidst the odds. The guest speaker utilized an anecdote about trust, transformation and praise to strengthen her point. “Transformed people will look at the odds, face the reality of the odds and remind the odds that there is a God” she shared with the women.

Sounds of approval were heard as the presenter gave the ladies pointers on how they can use praise to beat the odds. “The energy necessary to allow us to rise above our circumstances is called praise” she ended. The women were empowered to untether themselves and praise God despite who they are and what they are going through.

Dr. Lorraine Vernal, Women’s Ministries Director of Jamaica Union Conference addressed the gathering on Sabbath, October 26, with a presentation on strategic ministries for transformed women.

The Administrators of the West, North and North East Conferences were not present but still extended words of encouragement and strength to the ladies. “Let us recommit our lives to Jesus and be steadfast in our faith because soon we shall behold Him,” said the West Jamaica Conference administrators in their printed remarks. The Administrators of the North and North East Conferences also encouraged the women to “move forward and do extraordinary and remarkable exploits for, and with the Lord.”
